.....I raced a 2000 Ram Air Trans Am. I was in my 86 GT (auto) going down the street. In my rear view mirror I see the ever so intimidating front facia of a 2000 r/a T/A quickly approaching my rear end.
Hmmmm, I think...I know I dont stand a snowballs chance in hell on this one....ahh, but F-it! Why not!
So this guy blows by me in his brand new black T/A, young guy (bout my age), got his shades on, and his t tops off (which was strange in itself because it was 107 degrees outside...I had the air on thank you!

).
We're both going about 40-45 and he rolls up next to me and grins..I do the same.
I remember thinking, "Please dont let this light up here turn red!"...it did, and there we both are sitting. I looked at him and shrugged my shoulders and grinned...light turns green....BAM! I shoved the accelerator so hard I thought my foot was going to go through the floor! My baby recognizes the demand, and she takes off like a bat outta hell! I was keeping one eye on the road and one on the speedo....10 20 30 40 50 60 70 80 90 100 .....Im grinning so hard because shes pulling so hard and fast....until I see about three car lengths ahead of me....yup, its Mr. Trans Am......
We eventually turn into the same gas station a minute later (guess we both used up whatever gas we had left in our gas hogs).
We got out and chatted and checked out each others cars. I told him I was so into checking the speed and what not, that I didnt even see him in front of me! He laughed and said something to the effect of "I really wasnt expecting that thing to take off the line like that, I underestimated you"....he said it took him a short while to catch up (and of course pass me). I told him I knew I wasnt going to win..but was courious.
"Thats a baby Trans Am you got there" he said.."its really nice".
The guy was super cool. His car was even cooler! It had the Delco Typhoon ( I believe thats what its called) 500 watt stereo in it! GULP! Even more potent than Fords Mach 460 they put in the Mustangs.
Anyway I knew I never had a chance, and the guy was really nice. It was all fun...I am really surprised how my baby jumped off the line like that and never lost any breath!
I didnt mind losing this one...after all, it was a Pontiac..... the "Granddaddy of Fieros".
