I went to cars.com and looked up the stats on a 1990 Mustang GT........

225 hp
300 ft. lbs
2824 lbs..........How in the he!! is a 5.0 close to the same weight as a fiero GT????
My Formula weighs around 2700.......
Whats up with this.
The 4 cyl stangs weigh in at 2759 lbs.
This is just wrong.

I always thought they weighed a good 3500 lbs. Welp, there goes our "huge" weight advantage.

The GVW for my 92 Mustang GT Convertible is 3200lbs. Now take out the driver, payload and full tank of gas. 2700lbs is about right

79-93 V8 Mustangs are known to be light.

Also known to have god awful brakes , but light nonetheless.

the 94+ gained about 250-300 lbs.

Our cars are deceptively heavy. Mine weighs 3068 with me in it and 1/2 tank of gas.

Why do you suppose they were so popular? Lighter, cheaper, more moddable than anything else built in the late 80's/early 90's. They were the king of the street until the LT1 F-body came out, and Ford still sells every one they make. Supposedly a new Z-28 is cheaper and faster than a Mustang GT, but if you can FIND a Z, it'll be so loaded out and slushboxed that it costs more than the Mustang. Saw a new Z-28 SS convertible today, $34,850. Cobra convertible, $32,500. And there are 10 times the Mustang GT's as Z-28/Trans Am/Formula's on the used car market, too.

I seriously doubt a stock 86-93 5.0 would come in below 3k without driver. Sure, there are a ton of things you can do to lighten them up, but 2.7k without driver is totally unrealistic IMO. I weigh my 89 5.0 everytime I'm at the track, and it hovers around 3.4k (me in it, 160lb)with the following weight mods (approx):

Glass Hood -20lb
Remove AC -20lb
Rollbar +90lb
Scat shield +40lb
TKO 5sp +70lb
Delete spare -20lb
Delete backseat -10lb
Subframes +30lb
Blower +70lb

Add it up, and you get close to 3.2k when stock, which I think is avg (hatch or noch).
