Does anyone know anything about Fiat x1/9's? I am considering buying one as a daily driver and using the Fiero as a toy. If anyone has any opinions/experience/ etc, please post it. I like the idea of a hundred horse SOHC I-4 that can rev past 8k. (I have SEEN it, hit 8k on every shift, and sounded AWESOME!) Not as nice as the raspy burble of the Fiero (v-6), but much nicer than the iron duck!

Owned a Fiat x1/9 for years, even autocrossed with it. Awesome car, crisp handling, high g cornering, quick stops.
But NO torque. For a daily driver with a Fiero backup car it should be excellent, it won't give you bad habits inbetween Fiero runs.

I had an '81 for about two years - GREAT CAR! The only "show-stopper" problems I had:

1 - The Bosch fuel injection system ('81 was first year for it) was temperamental. Driving down the road, the engine would stop and start, stop and start because the FI wasn't pumping enough fuel.
2 - The clutch would freeze up in the winter.

Other things to watch out for:

3 - Fiat didn't know what rust prevention meant. If you can find one that's still in one piece, I'd suggest having it rust-proofed and undercoated.
4 - The electrical system is not the greatest.

That X1/9 is the reason I have a Fiero today. The Fiero gave me the personality of the X1/9 and added reliability and easy to find/inexpensive parts. But you're right - the X1/9 will run circles around the 2.5

The Fiat X 1/9 is a very neat car... Love it specially when my older brother bought one back the early 80's...Probably he ran into is the carb of the car...Anyway...with Targa Top...it's a little Ferrari itself...Anyway...problem with this car is that it's so small that when your next with a SUV or an 18 wheeler...it kinda makes you think twice not to be next to them....
