Go home 454. Good luck in your quest of finding a 14 second dependable daily driver that gets 30 MPG for $1000. If you find one, go ahead and buy another one for me.
Think about the question you asked and where you asked it. Did you think that 800+ people that come here would tell you to buy a Mustang? Why dont you go over to one of the mustang forums and ask that same question to see what kind of results you get. If you went to a Yugo forum, people there would tell you to buy a Yugo. Think about it. Most everyone that replied to you did so in a respectable manner. Try that at the mustang forum and see what you get. Go ahead and buy your dream car. In at least 12 years, see if it has the following that the Fiero has now. Keep in mind how much the 84-88 Mustangs were POS's before you think too hard about that. Now, good luck in your quest.

If you don't want or don't care about others opinions then why ask for it?

I have owned 2 mustangs. Fiero's have countless electrical problems? BS! My 5.0 cost me $800 to have the electrical system fixed and my 4cyl. cost me about $200 to have the electrical systems fixed. The old mustang hatchbacks have the worst electrical systems I've ever seen. Most of em wont handle a 40watt amp. Out-handle a fiero? BS! on a sheet of ice maybe...simply because there is no weight in the front end of a fiero. Don't get me wrong. I Love mustangs. But if your looking for a reliable car, a mustang is not the way to go. 90% of them go through rears like they do gas. Like I said, my 5.0 cost me $800 for the electrical system, $200 for a a USED rear that I put in myself to save money, 200 for a USED transmission that I also put in myself, but I'll give my mustangs one thing....not one damn thing ever went wrong with the way the motor ran.

If you want my opinion 454, I'd say don't buy a mustang, don't buy a fiero, and go get a metro cause that's all a jackass like you deserves to drive

454, I also went to many many fiero sites to check out the car and the stories from fiero owners. This of course, was when I was interested in getting a fiero. I wanted to know more about it. I heard the horror stories about the 84 fires, the clutch, the wiring, but I found a fiero in my town that was well cared for that had about 84,000 miles on it. I bought that car(87GT)last April and to today, I have yet to replace anything on the car and it hasnt broke down on me. I did replace the exhaust system and that was because it needed it. I am very pleased with the choice I made. I have a 5-Sp tranny and have had NO problems at all with the clutch. My flip up lights work beautifully, no wiring problems. I had a 94 Grand Prix before my Fiero and it would cut out on me sometimes and the engine had a bad rattle in it. I got rid of if for my fiero which many of my friends thought was stupid, but now they know I made the right decision and so do I. All I have to say is good luck with your future Mustang. I hope it makes you happy like my fiero did for me.

I really hate to see 454 go away mad. But looking back over the posts, did anybody really say anything all that nasty? I bet if one of us went over to a Mustang forum and asked the same question, our parentage and sexual preference would be questioned.

Mustangs really are cool cars - and nothing sounds like a 5.0. But it costs as much to make a Mustang turn and stop like Fiero as it does to make a Fiero accelerate like a Mustang! (Plus, they rust.)

I can guarantee you that if 454 went to any Stang BBS with the same question, the Fiero's wouldn't even be given the time of day (if the younger crowd even knew what a Fiero is). I'm getting it right now from my Stang buddies (mainly because I did the same to them). It seems this board from looking at the demographics and such is a little more mature. Don't get me wrong, there are some great guys (and gals) on the Stang BBS's, but to broadly generalize, the Fiero would be laughed at on other Boards, but I'm not laughing.

454,

I'm sorry to see you were upset.

Your main concerns right now are straight line performance and the respect of your buddies... Definitely go for the Mustang.

When you are older and neither of those are as important... Remember the Fiero as a second car to have some fun with while you're not hauling the 2.5 kids around in the mini van.

BTW, my first car was a 66 Mustang I bought in 74. I loved it!!! Some of the negative comments above were from old farts like me that don't think Ford has actually made a Mustang in almost 30 years.

Best of luck...
