I had a guy in an older Porsche 911 taunt me to race him today. At first I didn’t want to because I don’t like to beat on my Fiero and I knew I couldn’t win a race with a Porsche 911. I finally gave in and raced him. He won the race but what I did do was take him off the line util about 15mph and then he pulled away. I was able to stay with him at about 80+ mph onto some twisty highway on ramps and then I let him go. I’m still getting used to this car as I’ve only been driving it for a few days now. It amazes me though how well this car handles and brakes, and I love that exhaust note. My car is completely stock. I feel that this little American mid engine sports car has a lot of potential with some minor modifications to the 2.8 engine. I’ve got the fever for more HP.

Remember too, that a 911 costs a few more bucks than a Fiero, and they were never meant to directly compete. I've had sports cars on and off for over thirty years. The Fiero is a well-priced and able car. I've thought about getting something else, but for me the Fiero is a good choice. I've had two, my first purchased in January, 1985. It was totalled a few years ago (rear-ended) and I replaced it with an '87 GT. I've always been happy with my Fieros.
I just took the option of spending several thousand dollars to essentially "restore" my car to a state where I think it is as reliable as a new car. That's how much I like the car.
Any car can be hot-rodded and improved upon. Even the highest-priced and "best" cars in the world have critics and tuners who upgrade them.

I understand the huge gap in cost between the two cars, but the gap in performance between the two is not as great. I don't expect a Fiero to have the same capabilities as a Porsche has, but for a car that is twelve years old and cost just a fraction of what they cost, its awesome. It's a bargain.
I've restored a car before, it's fun and well worth it, especially for a car as fun as a Fiero.

I was playing around with a 911 one day to see what the thing is capable of. I gotta tell ya it wasn't pretty. I barely had to rev my motor and it was gone. I could just see the word RUF through the tire smoke as it shamed me. I kinda laugh to make myself feel better. I said to myself.... self:"He's the moron that has to replace those 245-40-18 tires." I didn't help me very much. I wanted to bury my head in the sand. I knew it would kill me but that was horrible.

SCCA-I'm sure you know that if you saw the word "RUF", you weren't playing with a stock car. (OK. It is stock, but not really. Kinda like AMG for MB.) And if the guy can afford a RUF version of a 911 he's got the cash to buy new tires!
Yeah, he's loaded. I saw him a month or so later at a gas station with it on a trailer and being towed by a new truck. He said it isn't legal anymore and he now has a Ferarri 355F1 for everyday driving. The Ruf was sporting the number 13 on the door and looked ready to play. How would it be to be rich?

I wish there were more twisty roads, and 911s around to play with. We've got a better weight distribution to start with, add better springs,Bilstiens, some nice rubber, and of course some horsepower, and you've got a reliable Porsche-embarasser.All with a much lower Xick-head-factor than those cars as well.

I did some looking around in some Porsche magazines to see which Porsche I raced. It seems that I have made a mistake and the Porsche I raced was actually a 944 not a 911.
I'm not to slick with shifting a stick yet as I've only been driving one for a short period of time. Maybe if I was better I could have stayed with him a little closer. I only revved her to five grand. At least I was able to stick with him in the corners as I watched his rear end bob from side to side.
All this little Pontiac needs is a little more power; I think the suspension only needs some minor tweaks.

there is a reason that it was called the 911. say it just a bit slower with me now, c'mon you can do it... 9-1-1. yeah, i'd love to have one too, but my expenditures are not quite that great. untill they are, i will happily stick with my 86gt
A mile down the road from me is a Lexus dealership. They hardly carry any Lexus' cars though. More of an exotic used car place. Since I drive by this place every day, I see on a monthly basis, Lambos(diablo and countach), Ferraris, lots of Porche's, etc. There are two 911s there right now. A red one and a white one.
A neighbor let me drive his mint 30,000 mile 944 once. It has an auto but it was fun to drive. Although I didn't get on the gas very hard, I think my Formula pulls stronger. Those Porsches are fun to drive though.

The older 944s weren't that great and the 924s were just plain dogs (nothing personal, dogtired! ) Even the older 911s weren't what you would call hot.
