Sup everyone, I'm bored and I just got off of work. How do you guys compare the three as far as performance and styling? Please don't be one sided, because I just read an article comparing the three and it was sort of one sided. Please no wars here. Just want your opinions.

I'd have to say that a Fiero with a v-6 or above, maybe even the 4-cylinder, will kick the crap out of a maita off the line. Miata's are designed very much like our little cars. They don't have gobs of power, but just a very fun car to drive. The Del Sol with V-Tec would most likely beat a stock Fiero(remember the Integra post a while back). I don't know what the numbers on these cars are, but I know v-tec's are usually pretty quick, and a miata has the I-4. Something around 135hp I believe.

You have to give Mazda some props for poppin' out the Miata in '89 and starting the 2 seat sport car craze one year after Pontiac stopped production on the Fiero... grrrr. Just think if Pontiac had held on for one more year..
The Fiero was slated to get the HO Quad 4 in 1989 - an engine that's notorious for blowing head gaskets. Sadly, had Fiero production continued, our favorite sports car might have an even worse reputation than it already has.
Del Sol's are nice, but I'm not into FWD performance cars - their handling is spooky. I love Miatas, but they could use a little more HP and I can't afford a nice one anyway!

Chad..besides the quad-4..Pontiac was also considering the 3.1 engine...I also heard another rumors that 3.1 Turbo was going to be available for the Fiero... But Chevrolet did not like that because they don't want anything that will blow away their Corvette.
Sorry about that previous post. I wasn't sure about my password. I had the bad luck of racing a Del Sol just last week. We both kinda took off slow from the line until he tromped it around 20 kph. I floored it and kept right beside him up until about 130 where he started to pull away. I don't know if he had any mods done to the engine, but he had the usual import big tip exhaust and aftermarket rims. Sweet looking car actually.
As far as the other posts go regarding engine options in the Fiero, in Gary Weizengburgs fiero book some of the pontiac engineers talk about the 2.9 Turbo aluminum engine tath put out 235 bhp. One of the engineers said that it was quick enough to set the worlds fatest production car record for 0-60 times. Unofortunately, they felt that it would be unsafe for "joe driver" to drive without taking driving lessons. The fiero had so much potential to be an exotic killer car at an affordable price. As it is I'm more than happy with my 87 GT.

four50four...miata came out with a kit that you can hook a 5.0 liter mustang engine in it...so what!!!! have that miata met a 5.7 liter corvette engine powered fiero with a 5-speed or a northstar powered fiero???? hmmmmm...let's see who wins....
I raced a red Miata with the GT 5.0 with my 'Burb. It was where the through lanes at an intersection are 2 lanes for about a quarter of a mile and then it drops to a single lane divided highway. Everyone around here knows that the left lane runs out, but folks still pull up over there to try to get ahead of the right lane traffic. By the time the light went green, he had pulled out into the intersection so far that I could read his cheesy "gotta V8" license plate. I just watched the lights for the turning lanes and when they went yellow, I brought the 'Burb up against the converter (about 1500 rpms) and when the light went green I did the quick jump to half throttle and then smoothly lean into it so I dont smoke the tires. All he did was spin tires and watch the ass end of a 3/4 ton SUV pull away from him. Maybe next time I might even use the bottle throttle on them to embarass them even more.
I had a guy in a Miata in the lane beside(to my left) goosin' the engine, noddind his head, just begging to be put where he belonged. When that light turned green, he was already in my rear view. Turned out the guy stalled it at the light . He caught up at the next light, wouldn't look over at me. When he finally went by, he had one those magnetic dealer tags for a test drive on the rear. I couldn't stop laughing for several blocks, people must've thought I was nuts. Was a very enjoyable experience for me.

My 87 SE V6 out gunned a Miata a while back as well. He rolled up beside me, looked over, and then downshifted so I could hear the engine rev. So the light ahead of us Turned yellow and we both stopped at a light. He revved again. So the light turned green, the pedal went down, and by the time the auto tranny hit 2nd, I was looking at the guy in the mirror. I guess the dude needed more practice shifting
But I backed off because of RR Tracks ahead, and I didnt want to hit them real fast and tear up anything.
I'd love to have a Miata, but I don't think I could give up Fieros to own one. The Miata handles like a dream, but so does my 88 Coupe. The Miata has a proper DOHC 4-banger (140 hp), but I could stick a rebuilt Quad 4 in the Coupe for around $3000 that would make 180 hp (or go for the 3800 V6). The Miata's a droptop, but there are some nice convertible kits out there for Fieros. The Fiero's a lot cheaper, but Miatas hold their value well...
It's a good thing I'm too poor to have to face this decision for real!

I have a '87 4cyl automatic fiero and a '85 4spd 3.2l fiero. My wife has a '93 miata that I put a greddy turbo kit on. The only thing I dont like about the miata is its very cramped compared to the fiero's, its geared very low (3000rpm at @65 mph), and parts are expensive as hell. The battery for example is a dry cell($85) in the trunk. The hydraulic cam followers/lifters are @ $45 each for the improved kind.Did I mention its cramped?

Think a Japanese car is inexpensive? Think AGAIN! Just try buying almost any stock (OEM) replacement part, and look at the price tag rise as fast as the tach on my Fiero GT! I'll stick to GM, and the much more affordable and available replacement parts. PS. I think the Fiero looks better than either of them, anyway.

I worked for Budget Rent a Car for a while after I graduated high school and drove several Miatas. They are nice, but for a guy my size(6'3" 250) they are very cramped. In fact, my knee would hit the steering wheel before I had the clucth all the way out. But then, the engineers at mazda didnt have someone my size in mind when they built it.

I think the fiero is a head turner. I have people follow my 88 formula and point at it here in mass all the time. Seems most people don't remember the fiero, they are pretty rare compared to the miata. For a car that is 11 years old, its design looks modern.

Well.... Wasn't in my Fiero, but I was cruizin' in my '94 Z28 when a nice Del Slo pulled up next to me at a light. It was 1am in the morning, and no cars anywhere. He revved the crap out of that little car, but when the light turned green, I completely and totally BURIED that little piece of crap alive. The guy pulled up next to me at the next light and just smiled and shrugged. I gave him the thumbs up anyways. At least he was cool about it!

Maybe I'm old, but I feel street racing is the same as drinking and driving. I'm not preaching because I've been known to do both(last night). I just don't brag about how drunk I was when I got home, I think how stupid and lucky I am. When I play on the street I feel the same way afterwards. I know street racing happens like DUI's. I don't think it's something to brag about.
