Did any other Fieros, except the red ones, sport the gold GT rims from the factory? I have a black GT and want to paint my wheels gold with polished accents. Will this car be distinguished as modified just from the gold rims? I saw a 98 or 99 black Grand Prix the other day with gold wheels similar to the Fiero's and I was instantly inspired to paint my wheels gold. It looked really good.

Eric, I have a fascination for gold rims myself. I have "American racing" rims on my GT. The polished aluminum has flaked enough that I've considered painting them also. I'm afraid of what they may look like after though. If you do yours before I finally breakdown and do mine, let me know how they come out!

I think all colors came with both color wheels. Yesterday i saw a white GT with gold inset wheels and my buddy has a white 88 GT with black insets. I know the maroon ones have both colors too so maybe were available with both colors but I don't know for sure.

Gokart,
Is it polished aluminum with clear coat that is peeling or is it chrome? If it is just clear coat, you can either sand blast it off (the easiest way) or you can use aircraft stripper. Then it's just a matter of getting someone to paint them for you. It is important to use a good quality clear coat because wheels are subjected to wet, salt, dust, etc., more than any other part of the car. After all, you don't want the same thing to happen again.

I'm not sure how to deal with chrome. If that is, indeed, what you have?

I'm not sure, but I'm not up for the work on them needed cause there not really the rims I really wanted to begin with. I got the day off today and I'm going to 3 bone yards in the area to see if I can get what I really want and had on an 85 coupe years ago.....original Fiero diamond rims!
