I really like the sound of borla exhaust and I did some searching and couldn't really find which muffler offered today will fit an 88 gt. I've already talked to borla and they really couldn't help they offered a center single in and a dual on one side out this doesn't seem like it would be the best option also its 19in long which seems to big any help would be appreciated also there was this system http://www.fieroparts.com/aftermarket.html which I told them about but they really didn't seem to understand what I wanted. I just need the muffler I'm not interested in going to single out I like the dual exhaust look

When Fiero Parts made them available maybe 15 years ago, I bought two and had them installed on my Fieros. For Borla to make $$ on the cat back systems, they wanted a run of so many (I think the number was 20) I worked out a deal with Twin Lakes Auto in Paxton Il, and Bob bought out a run ($10K or so up front) I was at his shop when they arrived and were sold out rather quickly
The original cat back systems were designed from an 87 V6 system and Twin Lakes diacovered that those did not quite fit on an 88. Bob used my 88 GT to determine just what tweaks were needed for the Borlas to fit on the 88s. When he sold them, he would tweak the pipes for the install on an 88. I am sure that if someone had enough up front cash I'm sure that Borla would build them again, but the last I heard they wanted a run of 50 at about $500 per.
The cat back systems are still working well on my 87 GT and 88 GT.

Does anyone know if this modification has been documented anywhere??? I have an 88, and if the Borla cat back system really is available from ProStreet as indicated in the link provided by Fierosound I might spring for one, as that is one item I have always wanted, but never did buy when they were available years ago.

I don't know if it was documented anywhere. It was some added bending with some of the pipes. I know that the pipe tips hang a bit differently on the cars. The drawings on the Pro Street web page is a generic cat back system and not the one for a Fiero. BTW no V6 in and 84 as the web site states.

A cat-back system would fit an 84, but did they have dual cutouts on the rear fascia?
The tips should hang the same between 87 & 88, the tweaks should be on the exhaust pipe under the engine to fit the area around oil pan and motor mount.
The muffler and tailpipes routing should be the same.

Borla has a crossflow (transverse) muffler for the Camaro/Firebird. Body shell is a little big for the Fiero, but people have fit other mufflers of similar size. http://www.carid.com/univer...mufflers-961997.html
I just got an e-mail back from the guy at borla and he just pointed out this muffler seems like you would have to have it cut down though so I don't know hope some others have some opinions about it. I would be interested to know how that Insynerator muffler sounds that price is cheap enough if it sounds good I would think about getting one of those thanks for the great info

Used it on my Indy with NO catalytic convertor, 3" pipe, and Hooker resonators. LOUD as heck and an annoying drone at highway cruise. I HATED IT.
Reworked things a bit. Used a different header so I could install a catalytic convertor used 2-1/2" pipe from header to muffler (still with resonator tips). Compared to before - NOW it sounds very good, deep throaty, not obnoxious and quiet when highway cruising.

looks like this is the right kind of muffler but don't have any dimensions I emailed borla and they said they don't sell just the muffler which is all I would be interested in can't believe they can't sell me just the muffler what do you guys think? The only problem I see is it's 3in http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bor...em2a2e4861da&vxp=mtr

because it probably would be cheaper for me to piece it together I just need the muffler don't have it in the budget to spend that much on exhaust that's near what I paid for the car. thinking I'll just get a flowmaster 80 and get it over with and go with some resonators would really like a borla but just don't think it's going to happen.

I have been seriously considering buying some tubing and mandrel bends and trying to reproduce an OE style exhaust using either the Magnaflow 12277 or 12266 mufflers. The 12266 might be too long, but I won't know till I take some measurements.

yeah I was considering that one to I like magnaflow it's what I have on my camaro but just seems like it would be a pain bringing it all the way across the car, I think I've seen a post where it was done before I've been researching exhaust a lot lately but think I'm just going to pick a setup already and get on with my build it's got me at a stand still that and doing the bushings for my rear suspension I just got them in the mail today so I know what I'll be doing tomorrow lol.
