Sorry I havent installed one of these in years. So Im installing a larger fuel tank in my 86 Fiero GT. I think the fuel tank is from an 87 (no expansion tank). I baught the fuel sending unit from Fiero store. Problem is the plastic inner liner of the fuel tank is in the way of the float, I can turn the sendin unit sideways and get it over the plastic liner, but now the float is much higher. Is this normal? There really isnt any other way to install it.Unless I ordered the wrong sending unit (?).

Update. I just checked my old 86 fuel tank and the plastic inner liner is set back 6 inches or so and the old sending unit goes right in. On the newer tank, the inner liner is right in the way of the float! Grrrrrrrr. Is there a remidy for this problem? Do the 87/88 Fieros have a diffrent sending unit?

I have an 88 sender here and it's certainly different. I would expect the 87 to be different from the 84-86 too.

Do you are trying to put the FS sender into an 87/88 tank? Is that the conflict? I was thinking of getting a FS sender for my 86.

Yes, that seems to be the problem...

Looks Good. I didnt have much of any problems.
Had to move the rear (86) tank strap to the front (easy to do) and had to cut it shorter and drill a new hole, as for the rear I baught a tank strap, Dorman 576-125 fuel tank strap off ebay, the pivot pin is bigger but will fit.The ends of the pivot pin needed to be ground down to the width of the OEM pivot pin and the tank strap (Dorman), needed to be notched like the OEM Fiero strap (near the pivot pin). Now all I need to do is connect the fuel filler hose and fuel lines.
