1987 fastback auto. Rebuilt engine with 3.1 block and crank. I forget if it is the 86 or 87 timing cover/pan.

I have an oil leak and I think it is from the front main seal. The seal is brand new along with the other seals on the engine.
The harmonic balancer is old and the rubber is bad and the timing marks aren't aligning. Also it had grooves from where the seal had cut into the metal. I bought a repair sleeve and installed the sleeve then installed the balancer put it all together and still have a leak.

Are there anything else that is wrong? Could be wrong?

I had an oil leak that I thought was the main seal. Turned out to be a faulty oil pressure switch. The switch housing itself failed, the oil leaked out and coated the front of the timing cover and the front part of the pan making it look like the seal around the balancer had failed. Also check the oil pressure tube coming out of the block above the oil filter.

Had that problem on my GT after rebuilding my engine.
Oil was travelling down the keyway on the crankshaft.

A light smear of RTV on the key in the slot before installing the balancer solved the problem.

I pulled a 2.5L with a 'repaired' harmonic balancer, it leaked oil too.
I replaced the balancer with a new one, and replaced the seal, and
no more leak. When you replace the timing cover, leave it loose so the
balancer locates the cover to where it needs to be, and let the RTV
cure over night. After the RTV is cured, then tighten down the cover bolts.
