I used the tape on my ceramin coated headers (V8 swap) and stainless exhaust pipes. The headers got so hot the ceramic coating melted off the headers in a matter of an hour. The stainless exhaust pipes were blue. I had used the best header wrap. I touched the stainless heat shield I made for the trunk area, near the heat wrap, when the car was running. I got burned. I had to redue the headers, have them recoated and start over. The same engine, headers, stainless heat shields and all. I can drive the car briskly for an hour and the same place I burnrd my fingers (with the wrap) is now just on the "almost too warm to keep my fingers on" range. No wrap, lots cooler. If ceramic coated header get overly hot the shiney coating turns dull. Mine are nice and shiney. I would definately recommend not wrapping the headers. Heat shields made of thin easily formed stainless sheet metal can be used if you are worried an area is too close to the exhaust. Works so well for me.
