For those that have done it a few times I'd love to know your secret.

For me (after a lot of cursing) it was a matter of nosing the front down a little and off center to the left until top of the skeleton cleared the vent port and then wiggling the whole thing over so it was squared up. I only tried this after about 30 minutes of going at it straight on getting stuck over and over again.

Bonus points if you don't get the metal tab on the shifter assembly stuffed on the wrong side of the plastic where it screws together.

I've never had any major problems with it. If you go in through the passenger side and the entire dash is removed it's pretty easy. Slip it in front console side first, angle it downwards, wiggle it in, then eventually you'll get it to sit roughly in it's place. Just make sure everything that slips underneath it is sorted and placed where it's supposed to. I can pull it out along with the entire dash in less than an hour, and put it back together just as quick if not quicker.

The biggest thing to remember is never pull or push it in the area "past" (as in behind) the shifter surround area. That is the relative weak point of the skeleton. If you have to do any forcing or wiggling, try to do it on the actual front console portion of the skeleton. Get that squared up, and then gently get everything else sorted out.

When I replaced mine I had everything out of the way..radio, heater/ac contols, electric mirror switches, electric window switches. The replacement just slid back into place. The hardest thing I found was getting the heater/ac control modual back in.
