I've been diggin my wifes speed control volume in her 500 so much, that I'm wondering if it is possible to use a delco scv radio in the fiero.

How does the scv input work? I figure the fiero puts out a funky signal to it, but I'll be running the 4.9 computer and 4t60e trans. Maybe that signal works?
Or is it through the bcm, that I'm not using, and not worth dealing with?
any insight?

I would guess the BCM is sending a signal, but that is a guess. I know the radio unit talks to the BCM in my Aztek. When I replaced the radio, I had to get a unit that reproduced the warning "dings".

Yes, Speed volume etc are most likely signals from BCM. Many new GM "radios" are tied to BCM and worse, use "VIN Lock" so hard to impossible to use them in another car. Maybe GM dealers w/ GM scan tool can unlock radios in some cases.

The older SCV radios, like the ones in the 2001 Sonoma, don't talk to the BCM.

I've got one in my car but haven't hooked up the SCV. I'm guessing it responds to pulses from the VSS, but I don't know.
If I try it and it works, I'll post it up here.

Edit - My Sonoma shop manual says that the "vehicle speed signal" is connected from the PCM to pin 16 of C2 on the radio.
I'm not sure what that signal consists of, however. (Shape, number of pulses, etc.)

The PCM connection is C2-pin 50 on the 4.3 and C2-pin 17 on the 2.2. (If you happen to be familiar with the PCMs.)
This signal also feeds the cluster on both, and the "engine controls" on the 4.3.

If you have the Sonoma/S10 manuals, it's on page 8-557 of Volume 3.

All of the old stuff just takes a VSS signal, which is what you'd find in a din-and-a-half radio anyhow.

Thanks guys, ill see if I can do this along with the swap. The only bog deal is that I prefer the red backlight. To my knowledge, there was no scv stereo with red lighting. I do like my current grand am eq cd stereo until I do get to this. Thanks!
