Hello everybody , I've been noticing my temperature gauge reading high , but not reaching the "red" area. Warning light works and the fan kicks on when it's needs too.
When constant city / stop and go driving in first and second gear , this tends to happen.
While on the expressway in 4th gear , the temp gauge is perfectly fine just below 220.
I believe my thermostat was replaced , my radiator cap appears to be original , and my coolant reservoir is clean. No visual dents in the under-body coolant tubing.

So what could it be , air in the system? Funky gauge? Water pump belt tension?
I want to know what you guy's think , thanks a bunch.
-Joe.

When the car is cold is there still coolant in the overflow reservoir? Is the water pump original? Do you get hot air from the heater?

Some replacement water pumps had plastic impellers. They often got loose on the shaft and did not spin very fast. The only way to be sure you don't have one is to replace the pump, so it's not the first thing you do.
