Seems like this has been done, but I couldn't find the thread. Anyone remember what's involved? Pluses and minuses?

I did it on mine.

Pluses: No EGR hardware to break and fix. Less complicated exhaust system.
Minuses: Reduced cruise MPG, Illegal, fabrication cost.

I eliminated mine due to several factors. I have a '96 engine, coupled to an '86 4 speed manual. The shift cables interfered with just about everything on the engine in that area. I cut my throttle body extension on the intake in half and removed the section that contained the EGR mount and passage and welded it back together. The shift cables and throttle body no longer occupied the same area and I no longer had EGR. Since I had to have my computer reprogrammed regardless, I had EGR removed from it as well.

I dont have a picture of it, but can take one if there is any interest.

Same here. Made a steel plate and bolted it to the intake with the EGR gasket and had had Ryan (Darth Fiero) take the EGR stuff out when he made the chip. Easy stuff.

Pictures are always helpful. I'd heard that there might be a power increase to go along with the mpg decrease.

Thanks for your responses.

No power increase since the EGR closes long before you have it floored.

I did it on mine too. Found a plate on ebay (looked up EGR delete) I think it was for a dodge or ford truck. Fit perfect. Had the ECM flashed to remove the codes.

If you were to block off the EGR with out reprogramming the ECU, would it for sure trigger a CEL? I bought a Fiero last year that has a DOHC swap already done. While doing some other work I found that the EGR had a block off plate. It doesn't throw a code for it so is it safe to say that my ECU has been reprogrammed for it?
