Hello everyone!!

I have a 84 2.5 L with a M19 4 speed transmission. The transmission is out and in a transmission shop (a local guy with a very good rep). It looks like he is having trouble finding parts for the M19. Shift forks, seal kit, and first and second gear syncros.

Is there a newer manual transmission I could install? I have searched the forums and there is tons out there, but not many dealing with the 84's.

I have shift, select cables and a 5 speed shifter from an 87 Getrag Fiero.

thank you.

The M19 is a workhorse, and there should be many of them still available from forum members. I don't know about new parts, but you should have no trouble finding a complete transmission. As for a 5 speed, the Isuzu has been put in many 84s...but it is not a 'new' transmission either.

Talked to the transmission shop today. The M19 is going to cost $570.00 to $6500.00 to rebuild. Syncro kit, main bearings and seal kit $255.00. New fork $55.00 and used fork $45.00 plus shipping from California and $200.00 labor. Oh, and 4 to 7 days ground time. So I had him check into complete 5 speeds for me.

in the last month I have seen two used ones that the owners claimed were in good shape, one for $65 and the other for $100, plus I have seen more that i cannot recall
If you are going to pay someone to fix your Fiero transmission, it would be smart to have a complete rebuild kit before undertaking the endeavor
otherwise, as you have found, the transmission will be out of your car and in pieces while looking for parts you have a slim to zero chance of finding
