Instructions below from another thread say to Stake the housing, but i'm not really sure what they mean. Can someone educate me as to what I need to do here?

Once you screw the inner tie rod onto the rack you will see two spots that you can take a hammer and punch/chisel and flaten the edge of the inner tie rod against the rack. This is done to prevent it from backing out.

Thanks! Thats along the lines of what I was thinking, but I didn't want to start hitting stuff with a hammer until I knew for sure.

Dont just smack the rack with a hammer. That is a good way to bend the rack or screw up the bushings or whatever. I believe there are tools to pinch the new tie rods from under the car. In the picture you see they are staking the inner tie rods on a bench vise. This supports the rack, it is impossible under the car.

What I do when I replace an inner tie rod under the car is load that bad boy up with red locktite. It works just fine and you do not risk damage to the rack when you hit it with a hammer.

Good luck!

Ive done it under a car before by cutting a 2x4 to the right size and tapping it in between the tie rod and front crossmember for support.

Yea sorry I was just being a brute. I don't actually intend to just smack stuff with a hammer. I have the Rack off and in my bench vise, so the instructions work well. one of the inner tie rods ends is giving me some trouble, so I gotta figure out how to get it off.
