I've got most of the little problems with my swap fixed now, so its time to start on the non-essential things that I've just been letting go.
I went with a carb and distributor because it was the easiest as far as wiring goes. It sits on a Chevy 4.3:

This is the distributor I'm using:

It has a place to plug a tach into, but when I do, the tach slowly goes to full right peg. When I put a volt meter on that tab, it shows 12 volts all the time the ignition is on.

I did a search, but couldn't find anything on a 6 cyl HEI to tach.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
Egor

the "tach" wire plugs in to the cap on the pin that is under the word "tach" on the cap. In your picture it looks like you have a green wire on the same pine as the power wire.

what he said.

The tach in my Indy works fine with an HEI distributor.

Thanks bubbajoe. I'll have to order a new one since I gave the old one away with the old engine.

FFIEROFRED: That second wire is to the fuel pump so that it works with the ignition switch.

I have found HEI setups on GM light trucks where the BAT & TACH plug has a jumper between the two contacts from the cap.

The TACH lead must be a separate plug. IIRC, the BAT plug is black, the TACH plug is white.

In any case, it looks to me that the plug you are using has the internal jumper.

The tach filter is not the problem, nor is ir needed for operation.

All distributors in Fiero are HEI with external coil. Only V8 distributor has enough real estate to use the coil on the cap.

Olejoedad: I'll have to wait until the rain stops to check the cap to see if it has a jumper.
Are you saying that if I find a jumper and remove it, I can just plug the tach wire back on directly without the filter?
That would be easier and cheeper!

Thanks,
Egor

The one piece plug has the jumper, not the cap.

You should have two individual plugs.

The filter cuts down on noise, the tach may be jittery w/o it.
