Strange thing is it's not a gap between the dew strip and the door. It's a gap between the top of the dew strip and the top of the door. The door skin and the dew strip are sealed against each other. And the door skin is aligned fairly well with the surrounding panels. It looks almost if the steel part of the door has been manufactured badly. There's no apparent damage to the door. The car has only about 56,000 miles on it. I may have misspoke my distance originally, went had another look it looks like the differences about 1/4 inch. I imagine a picture would tell 1000 words I shall try that. Problems getting the time I suppose.
Yes think we need a picture. You installed the dew strip on the inside of the door next to the glass, correct? Not on the outside of the metal part of the door?
I'm pretty sure I got mounted the right way. Did it the same way I did the passenger side, and it looks good. This dew strip was like this before I remove the old one. Got a couple pretty good pictures, but I need a study on how to post them.
As I hope you can see the seal the edge on the dew wipe is resting against the inner side of the door panel. On the passenger side the dew panel rests at the top edge of the panel.

The red arrow points to the inner lip of the door skin - it appears that it is not hooked over the inside of the door frame!
Because you have the door skin bolts in place, the door seam would probably look like it's aligned ok but the top of the door skin - in the back / top is not hooked on the door frame correctly.

I see what you mean. I have a door apart right now. I'll have to take a look when I get home from work and see what might be going on. Do you recall if it was that way before you changed it?

So here is the door on an 87 coupe but yours should be the same. Not that it makes any difference but this is the Pass. door. Runs around a 1/4" or less the length of the door. Another idea did you use new screws as in my picture? I have not cut these off yet but they might be holding the skin from dropping all the way into the slot.
Now the piece that holds the skin is spot welded onto the door. Wonder if yours got bent out or is loose somehow.
BTY the dew wipe is one I made myself from the same material as DIT-Stu's.
