Looking at putting in a 4th generation Firebird interior and having a few idea and changes to make. I need to make some recessed sloping holes in a console. But not real sure about the how part? I was wondering if II had something in the shape and it was heated to the right temperature and if the pressure pushing in plus the heat would do what I want? If I am not making it clear, image a solo cup shape but a whole lot smaller, the top of the cup would be flush with the outside of the console, as you go in it would taper off and become smaller . Maybe about the size of a recessed knob or something. Want to do some and it look like it came from the factory that way. Anybody got ideas?

I'm having trouble envisioning what you want to do, but if you just want to cut a shape into a piece of plastic, there is an attachment for a Dremel that does a pretty good job. This kit is nice:

I have used it many times for modifying plastic parts in cars - cutting recesses for deep stereos, gauges, etc. It's pretty easy to control and make a pretty clean cut.

You're talking about a tapered bore? If you have a Dremel, there are a number of tapered bits that would probably do the job. Even without a Dremel, you could pick up the proper bit at a hobby store and just use a variable speed drill. There are also larger bits of the same nature designed for 3/8 drive drills.

That didn't work. Any if you will look at the cig lighter socket on a 93-02 Firebird console it is recessed. I want to do something like that.

I believe what you're saying is that you want to create a well, not a hole. The trouble with trying to do that is that it takes much more material than you have to play with. Essentially, you're starting with the surface area hole you want in the dash, and trying to stretch it into a conical cylinder. Try it with a piece of paper first, just cut out a circle the same size as you want the hole in your dash, then try to shape it into a cone. Depending how deep you want the well, you'll probably find the limitations of your suggested method. The vinyl that's used to make the dash skin will likely tear, or stretch so thin it won't be usable. Just my 2 cents.

I think he is wanting to make something like this general shape (frenched antenna hole), but into the console:

If the area you want to do this in is covered with some type of vinyl then as Blooze said you probably won't be able to stretch it far enough. If it is just plastic, then you are probably better off drilling the hole, making a plug of the needed shape, slide it into the hole, then build up the console on the backside with epoxy/fiberglass or something, then once it is cured pull the plug out and clean/detail the well.
