I did some pricing for clutch replacement in Ventura, CA., and the typical price is $680 for labor. I plan on providing the parts (LUK clutch kit).
Given that prices on the coastal California side of the world run a little higher, that still sounds like a reasonable price to me. Naturally, I plan on doing extensive research into who exactly will do the installation. I'll probably have all the seals replaced, also, since the transmission / clutch are usually in position for these jobs to be done.
Happy New Year!

I know you can replace the clutch without removing the engine but I'm not sure you could do the seals like that. I've had the motor out of my car several times so all the bolts are freed off, not rusted in place. It takes me about 4 to 5 hours to disconnect everything and remove the engine, similar to put it back in and I've done it several times so I have some idea what I am doing. Of course I'm just using regular home mechanic tools/jack etc plus a cherry picker to lift the car so it might be a lot quicker in a 'real' shop with real tools (ie a lift).
However I have to ask if the $680 price is actually for a Fiero and if yours has had the engine out recently because if the engine has not be out for some time, I'd expect all sorts of rusted bolts and that will add to the labor. Plus, has whoever is doing it actually worked on a Fiero in the last million years! At typical shop rates of around $100 an hour that seems to me like it's gonna be too low by the time the work is done. Of course if it's a fixed price quote regardless of time then that's a different issue.

Anything I might say is probably worth what you paid for it, so treat it accordingly!

It cost about $680 out the door when I did mine last year. In Boise Idaho. They did everything and provided the clutch.

When I had mine done (87 GT)with some FS clutch kit I had all the bushings replaced, throwout baring, flywheel resurface and the engine was dropped along with exhaust, suspension etc. It was pricey, but done right at the shop and the car shifts as it did when the car was new. BTW hard to find proper 85-87 flywheels.

I noticed good prices on flywheels at RockAuto, but I'm not sure if they are the type for the Muncie 4 speed (which I have), or for the latter 5 speed. Guess I'd better check, unless you guys know.
Thanks, and Happy 2013 Fieroing!
