Alright well my car is running perfect now , finished everything bought the car off of ebay. Its been running for a month basically since tweaked everything. So now my only issues are my gas gauge reads above full all the time.

and need to fix my radio ground , because well it got bent during a bad storm and assuming connection broke cause nothing but static now.

first time i removed was when got the car , purple powered and pressure washed twice , put back on and fuel pump that worked went bad , the third time.... car wasnt reliably starting assumed was fuel pump connection or something being loose cause that was the last thing I touched and well instead of being smart and applying 12v with tank still in the car , I dropped it and inspected and then applied 12v with it being out and was assured it was working fine , just turned out bad chassis ground.

so I have removed my gas tank like 3 times so far definitely dont want to do it anymore , but I cannot live with having the gas gauge not working. Would just adding some techron fuel cleaner a few times like ive read about actually work after a few treatments? or do I actually need to drop it , clean and maybe touchup soldier etc?

also would adding all the cleaner be safe on all the rubber lines , new injectors , sensors , etc? since its going to either have to be repeated so soon after one another and or high strength mixes

Chris,

The fuel sensor is a 0 ohm to 90 ohm sensor with 0 ohms = empty and 90 ohms = full. If your gauge is reading above full all the time, I would suspect the wiring from the tank to a connector on the firewall to the gauge is open somewhere....find the firewall connector, uplug it and short a pin to ground with the key on and see if the fuel gauge drops to empty to check the gauge and the in cockpit wiring. I don't have my schematics handy so I do not know which pin....since you have dropped the tank so many times it also may be that the wiring AT the tank or TO the firewall connector is now open (sure hope not!). I believe it is a yellow wire on the firewall.

I have had good luck using GM fuel system cleaner (liquid GOLD a $25/bottle) soak over the winter in a full tank of gas cleaning my fuel sending unit. I will repeat it this winter.

Alchol in fuel is highly corosive and death to fuel senders. No aditave will not fix anying. You need to replace the sender with a good one, they are getting hard to find. If you are really lucky you may be able to clean it. Don't hold your breath.

I watched a guy clean his(after removing it from the car and disassembling the whole unit) in a tub of vinegar. Came out looking brand new and worked great.

Which type sender is it? I have cleaned one of the half round style up with good results.

Ive never monkeyed with the other style fuel level sender. Try using fresh, clean gas. Just do so out doors. And no smoking .
