I know this topic has been talked about before but I am working on a wiper problem and I have observed this ---
I have unplugged the wiper switch (the one in the column) at connector C207. I should have broken the connection to the pulse board except for the power that is supplied direct from the wiper fuse via the white wire 93. Now ever time I first place the ignition switch into the acc/run position I get one phantom wipe. However if I reconnect C207 and disconnect the wiper motor at C109 I don't ever get any phantom wipes.
I have always thought that the phantom wipe problem was caused by a defect in the column switch.
I am about to change the column switch anyway because I currently have no control over the wipers at all. I can't even turn them off, they just run whenever and at whatever speed they want. However if my logic is correct the new switch may not clear up my phantom wipe problem that I have had for over 4 years now.
Anyone want to put their 2 cents in on this?

I'd love an answer too. My wipers quit working all of a sudden one day. I replaced the wiper board and now the wipers work great but I get a phantom wipe every time I turn the ignition on...
If you replaced the board and still get a phantom wipe it's more than likely the switch. Phantom wipes, and non stop wipers were fixed in my car (86) when the switch was replaced. The switch can fail gradually, going from a phantom wipe at power on, to an occasional phantom wipe while driving, to non stop wiper function.
That's what mine did. The switch can also damaged the board. A circuit burned out on my board resulting in the non stop action and when the motor assembly was replaced with a newer and likely sturdier unit the immediate result was a repeat blown wiper fuse confirming the trouble was elsewhere. Whatever was going on in the switch shorted out the board because I repaired the damaged board and tested it before replacing the assembly and it still malfunctioned. As a matter of fact, I believe it buzzed as someone else has mentioned in another wiper thread problem.
The repaired board still works from what I recall. Whatever the case the switch took care of it.

I repaired my board with the kit from Rodney and it fixed the wipe when I started the car, but that was it. I replaced the switch and (for now at least) my phantom wipes when signalling or hitting a bump are a thing of the past.

About a year ago a member on here was selling a gadget with 2 or 3 wire leads on it that was suppose to stop the phantom wipes. I bought one and wired it in at the wiper motor and that took care of the problem. Only took a few minutes. An after effect of the install was it takes several seconds for the wipers to start when they're turned on.
Check the archives. The price was super reasonable.

I need to find and then replace the wiper switch before I attack the phantom swipe.
Does anyone know of a source for the switch? Everywhere I have tried is out of them and unable to get more. So far all the junkyard have told me they will only sell me the whole steering column and that at this time they don't have any. Email to the Fiero Factory has gone unanswered.

SW946 from an S10 is what I used, I forget what year but that should be enough to track it down. I purchased it from AZ a few months ago and chances are after you install it there will be no phantom swipe left to tackle.
YMMV but I replaced my wiper switch assembly with an Echlin part and I still get the occasional phantom wipe, usually from hitting a bump or using my signal.
