85 SE AUTO w/AC

Just like the subject says. When i put the turn signal on for either left or right the wipers turn on once. Then when they start flashing they turn on one more time. Just one swipe each time. Why is this?

Also, when i turn the lights on at night, the passenger side blinks normal and works outside the car as well. But, when i'm trying to make a left turn the light doesn't blink. Its just a solid arrow. But the outside lights indicate to the oncoming traffic that i want to make a left. Even if i dont need to make the left turn its always a constant arrow, no blinking. Again, why is this?

Thank You

This could be caused by the wiper switch (which is in the steering column) or the circuit board in the wiper motor. Do a SEARCH and read upon "phantom wiper" as already mentioned.

The first thing i'd try is clean the side marker and turn signal sockets, then check and replace the bulb(s) if necessary.

Ditto on checking the bulbs. I've come to think that GM did this on purpose as a way to tell if your blinker light is out, or it may just be a handy side effect of a burnt out bulb.

Wouldn't hurt to buy all new bulbs (for the whole car) and clean all of the sockets. Those little bulbs are pretty cheap nowadays and it would be reassuring to know all indicator bulbs are fully functional.

I cleaned up my wiper motor and boards, and it fixed my phantom wipe.

I had to replace my wiper switch in the column.
