My ignition switch no longer feeds enough current to the starter solenoid to start my 88gt with auto.
My first reaction was to put a starter button in the driver’s side ashtray. Then I discovered that no high current switch would fit, so I am considering putting in a low current switch with a relay in the engine compartment behind the battery.
The unknowns in considering my options are:
How hard is it to install a new ignition switch? If it’s easy, I’ll go that route
The AutoZone web site lists switches for cars with tilt steering wheels and a different on for those with wheels that don't tilt. My steering wheel adjusts up and down and by my understanding of the word it doesn’t tilt. So if I decide to change it, which one (tilt or not?) do I get?
its easy to replace the switch, two bolts and then replace, and then adjust it then you are done. your steering colunm is a tilt one is the steering wheel moves up and down. if it was a non-tilt one it wouldn't move.

Before air bags, most, if not all American luxury cars had a universal joint in the steering wheel shaft at the vertical plane of the dash face. Those steering wheels tilted big time. And, when you opened the door, the steering wheel jumped up and to the right. When you got into the driver’s seat, you had to close the door and then pull the steering wheel down to lock it into position.
