86 se v6 4spd. I've got my manifolds off and discovered the rear one is cracked. Surprise surprise! My question is, since I don't have a spare block and dont know anyone with one, can I use a nice thick piece of wood to bolt them down while being welding? Or anything else that might work will he also! Thanks in advance.
Also, I only had one manifold head snap off and one bolt for the flange joint break. Other than that, once I got the "s" wrench for the bolt by the compressor, it was a breeze! Worked a little at a time everyday, didn't get into a rush, and went through almost a whole bottle of PB blaster!

Get a strip of steel wide enough to cover upper and lower bolts. Home depot or loews has some stock like that. I'd make it at least 3/8 thick and bolt that to manifold and then clamp the steel down good in a vise to further minimize flexing. I'm sure already know to jump around with the welds to keep the part cooler.

I gave them to my brother inlaw. He does welding for a living. Previous owner or someone had already tried to weld it and used the wrong kind of weld. So hopefully his job will let him do it for me! Thanks for the info in case he cannot!
Edit: kikimz24 that is a very kind offer but mine are still good. Save them for someone who really needs them! I really do appreciate all the kindness from this forum!

Ok so I got them welded and ready to put on. Now.... The three studs that hold the rear heat shield the threading on them is rather worn out. I called gm they are discontinued. He gave me a number of 10156082. I tried crossing that number and no one seems to have anything on it. I want to replace these while I'm there. I'm putting it back together today. Where can I find these?nthanks!

I would recommend replacing all the bolts with studs. 1996 Saturn SC2 bolts/nuts work well. I had one stud that would back out, but I locktited it in and haven't had an issue since.
