Tested the stereo in my fiero on sunday. I knew the radio worked fine but I needed to check the cassette player. Started out alright, then got slower and slower. Rather a painful experience towards the end. So I figured I might as well buy a new cheap alternative and install that. Then I came across this thread and thought that it might be worth a shot. If it works I don't need to worry about finding a way of filling the large hole left by the old AC Delco unit, if it doesn't then at least I've tried.

I have this stereo:

Do I just follow the instructions in the thread above? The units do look fairly similar but they're not identical... Has anyone added an aux input to this model stereo before?

The problem you described sounds like the belt in the deck may be slipping, might try replacing that first as a cheaper/easier alternative?

easier? took the thing apart and that does not seem easy at all :-)

the thread I pointed to was of very little help as I couldn't locate an "L" at all. I did find a good tutorial over at eurosportvr.com though. I also noted there's really no good place for a tele jack on my stereo which is slightly unfortunate.

ok, so I followed the eurosportvr instructions. And it doesn't work. Well, it does work, it's just that the sound is very weak. Weak enough that I struggle to hear it. Any ideas what would be causing this? There's no apparent fault in my soldering, already checked that and my stereo is the same as the one used for the tutorial as far as I can tell...

Finally! Something I can help with! When younuse the Eurosport method
Of tapping into the amplifier lines you always need the aux input plugged to complete the
Circuit. It just depends if there's something sending sorce or not. Make sure both volumes
Are up on the mp3 player and the deck.

I've always used the catt. heads input to add an aux input.. pulled the belt and or sometimes the plug on the catt motor.. and used a empty catt.. as the switch ... catt in the deck.. the aux is on.. catt out radio..
works great.. I also put the plug out the back like a patch cord and bring it out unde the carpet.. to keep pry'n eyes. at bay..
even if you never add any amps/etc.. that aux plug on the face.. is a big ? mark to a thief.. in they're mind " is there more to this system than I'm see'n and why is it hidden..
many a car goes missing because of this.. and the thief gets mighty mad when they are wrong.. and take it out on the car...
good luck

Just wondering, for those of you who have done this modification, where did you get your aux. input jack? I'm not finding any online or elsewhere.

hey guys, a thought: I'm using the headphone out. But what's the impedance of normal headphones vs normal car speakers? Maybe a line out works better?
