Hi, guys,

In researching serpentine pulleys and the HR6 a/c compressor, I discovered that the HR6 is used on 4.3l Chevy and GMC V6's. And is equipped with a 6 groove serpentine pulley.

Assuming I converted from V-belt to serpentine, is this compressor compatible (fit and function) with a 2.6 V6 (1988 manual, if it makes a difference)? Four Seasons 161-57969 is the specific compressor I was looking at.

Thanks in advance.

You would have to check and see which way the compressor is clocked, the rear head in relation to the front head with the mounting points, and how many switches it has in the rear head. There are a ton of different combinations. Swapping the pulley is easy with the proper tools.

Looking at the 57969 on the Four Seasons website, it has one switch port. This isn't a problem if you leave the low-pressure fan switch unplugged, since it's redundant anyway, and just hook up the high pressure cut-out switch. Looking at the clocking,

and comparing that to the one the 57255, for the 88 Fiero

Both have the same clutch coil connector, and are both in the same location as well. So it looks like if you swap the pulley, it should work.

I was gonna use the one off of a dead 4.9 I had saved in the garage. The back was not correct to use my rear V6 mounting brackets. I switched the clutch and pulley from my deceased V6 compressor

Look carefully at the compressor clocking before you buy it. I just found a picture I took of one from an 84 Fiero with the DA6, and the clocking is different than the above pics. This probably means the pictures on the Four Seasons site are not accurate.

This is the proper clocking for an 84-85 Iron Duke DA6, and I'm 90% positive it's the same as the 85-88 V6.
