Automatic transmission kickdown cable on 2.8 v6***
-I want to adjust the cable to where it up shifts early, thus resulting in more fuel efficiency.
-I have it all the way one way right now. but I do not know which way it should be.
-I have it the way I would think it would up shift early. but its not. also, it still shifts late. no matter where I set it, including all the way the other way.
-Whats going on here? cable broke or unattached in the transmission? it doesnt seem so.
-It is shifting around 3500rpm, and I have to lift off the gas to encourage it to upshift.
-It shifts at a high rpm no matter where I set the auto kickdown cable to. (meaning all the way one way, and all the way the other way)

Here is a good article to read that will help you manually adjust it:

A good starting point is to depress the TV cable housing end lever and push the end piece all the way in. Then open the throttle body to maximum and the adjustment will be optimized. No further adjustments will help you achieve better shift points w/o slippage. Firmer shifts with less slippage can be accomplished with the addition of an inexpensive Trans-Go shift kit. Its not a hard installtion but care must be exercised so that all the parts and the valve body be reassembled correctly. I have one on my 3.4L turbo GT and the trans feels like a stick when it shifts.

Trans-Go shift kit has a good reputation. Before you add one, check/fix problems first...

Yes... Properly adjust TV cable is required.
Problem with shifting, especially late/no up-shift, can be a issue w/ governor. Dirt hates the governor...

Do Not mod TV cable! Link above seem to be for engine swaps w/o an OE TV cable...

Note you never mash gas pedal when adjusting TV cable. You will cause problem and ever break the throttle cable.
Most engine, rotate TBI/TB to WOT
87-92 (Yes 92) duke need to rotate idler pulley not TBI

from the article given above*

"Be aware that a broken or disconnected TV will cause the pressure relief ball in the valve body to become fully seated. When this occurs, the transmission will have maximum line pressure, the shifts will occur extremely hard and late, and at lower vehicle speeds the transmission may not shift at all."

This is what seems to be happening, Ive got the cable adjusted all the way into the cable housing, where it should shift early and "soft"

well its up-shifting around 4000 rpm and feels "hard" every time, Ive had to lift a little to coax it to upshift around 3500 to save my engine.
