I like the idea of installing a removable steering wheel in my convertible.

What all do I need to buy? The kit, an adapter (thin?) and a wheel? The Grant site is a little confusing but I think I need all three items?

I have one on my '64 Beetle Conv., You will need the kit and a wheel adapter, You will need a Grant Wheel as well. The kit will not adapt to a stock wheel.
I can provide pics if needed. I bought mine way back in the early '90s and still works great.

That removable steering wheel may slow the thief down but the seasoned professional criminal shows up with a flatbed and just tows the car away. Thats why I like the GPS tracking device. That greatly increases the chances of recovery.

I know what your saying Dennis, but me, no matter what car it is...if its stolen and gone Id prefer the insurance money than the car back unless I can buy it back. You have no idea how screwed up the car is...blown motor, trans, etc. Thieves wont treat your car like you would...they dont give a crap. If it starts and moves, the insurance company wont give you anything for wear and tear thats not immediately obvious. My accident recently in my van, also broke the cat, broke the header pipe from manifold, broken brake line, broken motor mounts and broken AC condenser. Even though they were all fine before, insurance company said those were wear and tear items they wouldnt cover...even though shops wrote on the work orders damage was impact from an accident.

I understand your point about it not being the ultimate deterrent. But it shows that I have taken a vested interest in making theft harder to accomplish. While this may not stop the guy with a transport vehicle in his pocket, it may deter those who don't have such conveniences.

To answer your question, you need the steering wheel, adapter for the Fiero, and the removable kit.

And then whatever wheel you want.

The removable wheel should definitely help deter theft . I guess that no anti-theft device is completely fool proof but which is best??? .The thing about the removable wheel to check out is how much it moves the steering wheel closer to the driver. In a small car like a Fiero this could be a problem.

Also, a quick-release steering wheel is probably *NOT* legal to operate on public roads, depending on your state laws.

you can say what you want but my 86 monte SS was the ONLY g body not stolen from the super chevy show.. the other 8 where jacked.. 4 awol 4 with f'd columns mine.. untouched..

Yes, but what "seasoned professional criminal" would be interested in the Fiero in the first place? They are after the higher price cars where they can turn a nice profit from - it's the kids and punks that would steal the Fiero and only because if it is an easy opportunity (mainly because they need a ride someplace) and then they may only be more interested in the stereo and other stuff inside.

Let's talk reality here...

Removing the steering wheel will certainly prevent the car from going missing...
