im at a stand still... 4 x 10 speakers... I want a brand though where I can get the 4 x 6 to match pretty closely in the future (when mine i have now go out) for a complete good system
Kenwood KFC-415C
Pioneer TS-A4013
Kicker KS-410
which would be the overall winner?
------------------ 1988 Pontiac Fiero Gt (fully optioned, factory leather, 5-speed, CJB T-Tops: Black w/ gray interior and blk wheels) 1992 GMC Typhoon #0203 1971Chevorlet Corvette 454cu/ LS5/ 4-speed/ convertible 1993 BMW 850 Ci 6-speed V-12
It's really personal preference, of the three, I'd go Pioneer. Finding NOS Eclipse speakers is getting harder and harder...
Yea I know im just seeing what people like better in their cars from their personal experience.. not just numbers.. im leaning torward the pioneers also (best range)
I put 4x10 kickers in and 4x6 pioneers with my pioneer deck. It is crisp and clear. I would say find the mix that fits your ear. If you like the lows, mids, or highs get that speaker that represents the best tone quality in that range. I will say that my speakers are clear and hit well. They are more than loud enough to make you deaf and they do produce clear sound even when turned up past a comfortable listening level.

yeah but I feel as though the mid-low is the most important missing piece in most 4 x 10 design speakers..most of those 4 x 10s have good upper midrange and highs from the numbers and what I hear...... I liked that the pioneer had a 38hz low range.. im just not 100 percent sure on overall quality is why I asked on here what people think of their brands

If I could do my system over again I would put the kickers in it again. They do have a good solid mid-low. No they are not a subwoofer if you want that you should put one in. The low-mid of the kickers is a good sound with almost any song. I have played Biggie's "Juicy" and it performs better than some subs I have heard without compromising the sound quality.

I know they arent.. I already have a sub im just looking for the full range capability on my speakers was what i meant since most have the mid and high was looking for the low.. but thanks for the input on the kicker

My bad I missed the part about the sub. The pioneers are a good complement to the kickers. If you went that way. Also the kickers only run 89.00 to get a high quality speaker with rubber not foam. Either way goodluck.

I completely agree.. I want something of good quality and dont mind spending the extra cash to get it.. I was looking at the kicker KS-410 for around $65

Kenwoods would not even be in the running as I've never liked Kenwood speakers. The Pioneers would be an okay second choice, but Kicker would be my first pick from those. While I have never heard those 4 x 10's, I've been happy with any other Kicker speakers I've purchased over the years since my first purchase of that brand back in 89.

Not to hi-jack the thread here, but cant some 6X9's fit up front? Ive been told they can, but they have to be mounted under the dash instead of on top of them like the 4X10's.
I would think that if you are worried about the low range, then just upgrade to something bigger like the 6X9's.

I've never heard the kickers, but I've heard a pair of Kenwoods. Don't remember the model, but they were 4x10s. The Pioneers sounded much better than the Kenwoods. Had a much better low end.
A friend of mine heard my system with the GM CD headunit and the Pioneers, and was surprised that I didn't have a factory sub. (B pillar speakers were stock.)

Yea i was definitely thinking about 6 x 9s... they are in general a much better layout speaker.. they make an adapter plate for them but any threads on that here for kicks?

Not on your list, but you should consider the MEMPHIS AUDIO 4X10's and 4X6's. To my ear they are much better than any of the three brands you have listed.
As to 6X9's in the front dash - Yes, it is possible, you can not use an adapter, and there is some modification required to the HVAC ducting behind the dash panel, as well as the opening in the dash where the 4X10's would normally live. MEMPHIS AUDIO also makes 6X9's.
I have Alpine 6X9's in the dash of my 4.9 Formula (and Alpine plates in the B pillars, they sound very good, with solid bass and good imaging of the sound stage.
I have the MEMPHIS AUDIO 4X10 and 4X6 combo in my 86 SE, they also sound very good, although the very low bass needs some reinforcement from a small sub.

Go with 5 1/4" components, with an adapter bracket, instead, and when you replace the 4x6 speakers, go with plates, instead of coaxials.
You can see in several threads on the forum if you search, how to make the adapters. I believe someone was also considering making a batch of them to sell in the mall.

go with 5 1/4" instead. I have the 4"x10" Pioneers and they sound good, not great. - with the added caveat that the tweeter (paper) is somehow blown. It's the 2-way kind. I heard there is a 3-way kind as well.

Yea the more I thought about it if im going to do modifications to the speaker housing I would go 5 1/4s instead of the work to throw 6 x 9s in..
Im just thinking about if I want to spend that time and extra money on it yet.. I know furgal was making some.. but idk if he is making them anymore

I looked at memphis audio speakers.. but they around 120 bucks.. im looking more in the 50-70 dollar range not because I want to be cheap but im not looking to go all out just yet.. when I do im looking at bigger components in the front.. bigger speakers (dont know yet) in the back.. amp, nice sub, the works.. but that will be later..
anyone have any good 5 1/4s speakers they like for reference

Do it once, do it right, it's always less expensive in the long run....................
For almost everything that needs to be replaced.. trust me im aware ..but if im going to throw 120 for just a front pair of 4 x 10 speakers.. ill go 5 1/4 components or bigger and plates.. with seperate tweeters.. the 4 x 10 is a flawed design in my opinion..

It's not that much work. The template is in I think fierosound's thread under The Construction Zone, somewhere, and you can go get a small 1/4" MDF 24x48 "handy panel" at Home Depot or Lowes for like $5. You could cut a bunch of them out of a single sheet, so plenty of room in case you make a mistake on the first couple. The stuff is really easy to cut, and as long as you get the template drawn right and don't cut too much, you should be fine. You can always sand the edges down if you leave too much trim around the edges though.
