I just posted a thread today about my coolant issue and run into a problem... I guess when something fails, it all fails. I just opened the trunk normally like I always do to put the thermostat in. Closed the trunk. Now a few hours later it won't open. The key turns clockwise just to that point when it should click and open the trunk. It just won't go further. I tried pushing the trunk down/up, wiggle the key around, remove it just a little, pretty much everything I could think of.

I couldn't find a similiar thread so I guess it's not a common problem. Maybe anyone had a problem like this before? Or is a locksmith my only choice?

Thanks.

You might try a little lubricant like wd40 or better yet see if you can locate some lock lube with graphite in it (maybe lock deicer). If it is still difficult to open there have been new locks on e-bay. Just make sure you get the right one for your car.

I Agree, put the little red tube with WD40 inside the lock all the way in, then insert & remove the key a few times. should loosen up.

DONT use WD40. Use something with graphite in it. The WD40 will work, and then a week later it will be worse than ever.

Likely not the lock but the latch... If so, Spraying the lock won't help.

Try push down the lid, someone sit on lid, while turning the key. Hit w/ hand or block of wood and turning the key may help too.
Keep key turned until opens.

Nothing worked. I actually stood on the trunk rocking up and down while my dad tried to open it. No success. So I took my pliers and forced the key hard clockwise and yay it opened. But unfortunately now I'm gonna need a new lock cylinder because the springs fell out.

Thanks for the replies. Every bit of help is very appreciated.

EDIT: The latch looks and works fine. It was the lock that is the problem. Nothing was between the latch and the striker(I feared maybe some sheets got stuck between or something). Are these locks available? Maybe there are some that fit or "kind of" fit?

I guess that's pretty cheap. But I also have to account shipping to Poland. So I'm gonna first try and find if they can be fit from another car. Thanks for the info that they're still made. I wish they could also make door latches...

You can also go to a junkyard since GM has used the same lock cylinders since 1955. You just need to use the extension rod thats on your lock. It just slips on thru a little spring that holds it. Just get a GM trunk lock that they have a key for. I get them for $5 all day long at my local yard.
