As the subject line says what all motors will bolt up to a 4 speed muncie that had a 2.5 hooked t it? I am not worried about if it will fit in car as it is not goin g to be in oneWhat I am looking for is a motor that will make in the 150 hp range on carburetor. I am contemplating a project. I saw a mini-dunebuggy style machine yesterday with a geo metro motor and tranny on it and it got the wheels turning in my head. I am thinking the muncie with a 4:10 final drive would be a good tranny to use and I have an extra one in the garage. I just have to figiure out a good motor to link to it. I am looking for a carbed motor so that I dont have so many electronics as it will be used in the mud.
PS any help is appreciated.

GM Parts Direct often offers the 93-95 Camaro/Firebird 3.4 V6 as a replacement engine for the early 80's 2.8 carburated S-10 and S-15 pickups. It's somewhere in the HP range you want. It would be cheaper to get the same engine from an engine rebuilder, It's a direct bolt-up to the Fiero transmissions. The only modification needed would be relocating the starter to the left side of the engine.

All Fieros use the same bell housing pattern. 2.5 and 2.8 engines are interchangeable and bolt to all Fiero transmissions.

There are a number of 60 degree GM engines. The front wheel drive 2.8's and 3.1.s are the same but would only allow you to use the block for a carburated engine. The Isuzu Trooper uses the same 2.8 block but is equipped with a turbo and produces (I think) about 235-250 HP.

I think the early 80's 2.8 Camaro, S-10 and 15, Beretta, Corsica, Cavalier, Cimmaron, Cutlas, Skylark, Grand Am except for the 3.3, Grand Prix 3.1 turbo. Most are fuel injected, but it may be possible to convert them.

Here's a list, though not current. http://fierosails.com/Engine.html

Might have missed a few, but these are the ones from memory that have the GM Metric bellhousing pattern:

4 cyl:
2.0, 2.2, 2.5 (None of the Q4 or the Ecotecs)

6 cyl:
2.8, 3.1, 3.4 pushrod
3.4 TDC
3100, 3400, 3500, 3900
3800 S1, 3800 S2, 3800S3 - both NA and supercharged versions (and the 3300 variant from of the 3800 family)

8 cyl:
4.1, 4.5, 4.9 Cadillac
LS4
N*, Aurora ( and 3500 Shortstar V6) - not the exact same pattern as one bolt hole is relocated.

Any of the 2.8-3.1-3.4 iron head V6's w/ Edelbrock 4V intake & early 80's pre-EST distributors should get you there with the right cam, 'course the 3.4 would be best. Sometimes the Edelbrock manifolds & Holley 390 cfm carbs come up on ebay, otherwise new they are a little pricey.

BR's,

Mark
