Everything I read (here) suggests an 83.5" belt for the accessories (when the alt is left in the stock location), but one thread had an issue with 83.5 being too long (here).

Maybe the thread with the belt rubbing was due to the later model AC compressor? I'm working with a '99 GTP engine.

Just wanted to confirm everyone has been using the 83.5" without issue; aside from this one odd case.

Every swap can vary a little, depends on what size pulley you put on the tensioner along with other variables. 83.5 usually works, but I have had to go half an inch or so in either direction a couple times. Start with the 83.5 and exchange it if needed.

I'll be using the 70mm idler pulley (gates 38008).

Im not sure what size I usually use, I have a collection I grab them when I see them at U pull and pay. I can measure the one I'm working on now tomorrow and see what size belt I ended up with.

For future reference (in case anyone finds this in search) I ended up with the 83.5" belt / 70mm Gates 38008 idler.

These were the Autozone Duralast belts, so I'm sure they're not exactly cross-referenced.

82.5" was barely too small, couldn't get it to go.
83" was expensive, must be a rare size, didn't try it
83.5" fits, leaves about 1/4"-3/8" gap, not overly happy with it but it works.

I think the 83" would have worked best, but cost was prohibitive.

Depends on what year the motor is. The A/C compressor pulley changed sizes around 2000 or so.

Also what Alt/Alt bracket you are using as the 97/98s are different....

With the Alt in the stock location, I got an 82.5" and like MRose said, it was barely too small but I got it on close enough where I could bump start the engine and get the belt to jump into place.....might regret it later but we'll see.

Most people seem to be fine with the 83.5" despite the tight clearance. If I have issues I will either buck up for the 83" or get the 82.5" and wrestle it on.
