ok i currently own a 86 gt fastback with a 4 speed. pulled the motor was building a hybrid motor 3.1/2.8 using a 91 3.1 dis and all.. ive had the damn car apart so long i honestly cant remember everything about the motor.... well today i picked up a 87 fastback 5 speed.. runs great drove it a hr n 30 min home... it definitly will need front suspension parts balljoints are worn stabalizer is leaky u kno being a 25 year old car and all... its solid tho undercarriage is clean. but the body is faded and definitly needs repainted. ( no big deal tho beings i have a shop) but my 86 the body is immaculate..... so now im stuck deciding which to do... i dont have room to keep both... should i keep the 87 it has a sunroof and all power options... or swap the full cradle and shifter to my 86 and or how hard would it be to swap the roof over? interiors are equal in wear. drivers seat only thing worn. whichever i get rid of will go as a full rolling chassis ready for a swap. im just stuck on which to keep and which to let go. is either of them worth more than the other? id imagine theyre value is about the same.

87 is definitely worth more, with the Getrag and 2nd gen headlight setup. Build one good car out of the two. You can swap all the body panels except the roof in well under a day. The roof panel, to swap properly, you need to take the windshield out, which is not an easy job.

thats kinda what i was leaning more toward,, lol. i think im going to jack my 86 up remove the control arms powdercoat them and put the new ball joints in them. i want to jack the new one up and get a closer look underneath. but i know for sure behind the seats where they usually rot out is solid. and same with the battery tray. how about the doors? are the window regulators an easy swap over? its been so long i honestly dont know how good my window motors on the 86 are... as for the rest of the body i know how it comes apart.

Swapping the roof doesn't require the windshield removal if you are very careful. It depends on how well the windshield was put in the last time. Cracking the a pillars is the most likely outcome. You can switch over just about everything on whichever car you decide to drive.
I usually just take them all apart, and build whatever comes to mind as I go.
If I forget how something goes, I just don't use it!
Show some pics of both, so we can see what would look the best.

Whatever you decide to do, it sounds like a lot of fun!!! I wish I had a parts car to play with.
