I acquired a 87 SE 2m6 a few weeks ago. finally got the car to run and idle properly by replacing a few parts here and there. However, I have noticed a very loud (airplane jet engine) noise coming from the engine bay on the drivers side. I did notice that there is an aftermaket K and N filter instead of the the stock air filter. Could that be the cause of the noise or is there a leak that I can check? Any info would be great.

I can have pics by tomorrow.

Yep, it's caused by that filter. A better way to describe that sound is Darth Vader stuck on inhale. Normal, but it would be sucking in mostly hot air.

I presume you mean it's a cone filter, and not a K&N filter made to fit the Fiero intake housing. K&N does make a filter element that fits inside the stock Fiero intake housing, fwiw.

But yes, if it's a cone filter in the engine bay, with very little tubing, it will be much louder than stock which has several points of flow disruption which muffles the sound.

If your car is idling high, the IAC could have broken off. It will sound exactly like you describe.

I installed a new one. i think the idle is fine. it just makes the loud vacuum type noise that is really unbearable.

Can anyone tell me the parts needed to return to stock unless there is a better aftermarket kit or something.

Idle Air Control valve. It's under the throttle body, sticking out towards the trunk and takes a very large socket to properly remove it.

You would need to locate a stock air intake tube, the stock backside PCV tube (if it's been removed), the stock air box and air cleaner assembly, and the stock outside vent-to-air box tube. There is also a sensor that plugs into the air cleaner box that you would need to make sure is installed as well.

You need a stock air filter box, a stock intake tube (that runs between the filter box and the throttle body, and, if it's been removed, a stock water separator. You should be able to get these from the Fiero Factory, or from any V6 Fiero in a junk yard. I don't think you can get them new.

The previous owner of my Fiero had installed a hot air intake. Yup, sounded like Darth Vader couldn't get enough air. I was lucky and found an ebay sale that had everything except the inlet air sensor.
Head for a recycler (junk yard) and try to scare up a setup. If you don't have anything close there may be some members here that could help out.

Salvage yards are far and few in this area of Florida. I think I may have a source. I have to find a schematic or look at someone else car locally to see exactly what I need and how to make everything fit.
