The Fiero ECM can only do batch injection (not Sequential Fuel Injection) and has to be used with a distributor (Not DIS)

The Firebird intake points the wrong way - It will need to be rotated (if it can be)

Will the Firebird intake clear the distributor you will need if you are running the Fiero ECM?

The usual advantage of running a Iron Head 3.4 from a Firebird is that you can use the engine in the stock(ish) Fiero configuration, with the stock(ish) Fiero engine wiring harness and the Fiero ECM.

Thanks so much for confirming my suspicions, as I figured as much, just wanted a confirmation. Now I know why most guys go with the 3.4L swap, and that's what I'm going to do too. Thanks so much for all you guys help and tutelage. Hope this thread helps others who are just learning how to take care of and improve their Fieros! Have to say, I did win a 1st place trophy in "custom class" last year at the NW Fiero Fest...that's something at least. Hope to win one in "custom modified" after this is all done!? I still have to install my Jimmy Schulz (Fiero Fiberglass) side scoops too! :-)

(2) The heads are the same between a 3.4 and a 2.8, makes no difference which engine you pull them from.
(3) If you try to adapt the Firebird fuel and intake system, then you are doing the same work you would if you went with the LA1 3400. No, the coolant lines might be easier with the Firebird setup, but the rest is the same...new wiring harness and ECM, new throttle linkage, new fuel lines, new air intake setup.

Thanks so much for your good advice and tutelage!!!!

Thank you so very much for all those who have participated in this thread about the possibility, reasons, and concerns about doing a 3.4 LA1 V6 in a Fiero. It's been very informative to me, and helped me make the decision to go with the 3.4 L32 swap, which is much easier, less expensive, and more bang for the buck. From my perspective, at this point, if one is going to go to the trouble and expense of going with the LA1 engine, they would be much better off spending the money on doing a 3800 SC (my opinion).

I found a really good deal on a 3.4 L32 engine that the Fiero King pulled out of a '87 Fiero, that he is doing an LS4 swap on. He sold it to me for $150 + $75 preparing it for shipping (from Cour 'd Alene , Idaho to Lynden WA.). It cost me much less to just go get it myself, so I made a 830 mile round trip in one day, and now I have my engine (complete, except the headers are gone...he sold them). I've got it hanging from my engine crane and getting ready to bolt it to the engine stand, so I can rebuild it. I will be taking lots of pictures, and plan to build a "3.4 L32 rebuild thread," that's easy and informative to follow. I will wait until I'm all done though, so the thread is not so badly broken up by comments while it's being built, and leaving the comments, for the most part, at the end of the thread, thus making it easier for some one else to follow it step-by-step to use for their rebuild.

Again, thanks for all the expert advice and education from all participants. you all were a great help, and it's been a great education thread!
