There's a plug hanging in my engine compartment just to the right of the lid hinges. Anybody know what it's for? Also, where's the best place to get a good repair manual for my '85 GT coupe?

Only a few Pack-con....
next to battery? Many wires? Likely C500.

Almost every connector has PED label and just means Packard Electric Division.

If I'm standing at the back of the car, it's on the far left hand side very close to the trunk hinges

Haven't got the manual yet, but figured out how to post pics. Here's the plug, hanging by the deck lid hinge on the driver's side.

the wire is black and with a white stripe? Then yes, goes to the black wire on the deck lid that currently goes nowhere.

Well although they don't look like they belong together, one having a big plastic end and the other not, I hooked them together and PRESTO! The trunk release now works!

Yeah, the plastic portion is missing from the trunk lid half of the wire. You may want to wrap it with some electrical tape to make sure it can't short out.
