My 88GT is leaking water intot eh trunk through one of the holes where the spoiler bolts to the trunk lid. The spoiler gasket is in prettu good shape. There seems to have been a seal where the bolts that attach the spoiler to the trunk lid. Mine disintegrated when I removed the spoiler. I do not see a listing for seals for the bolts in teh P22 manual or on the Fiero Store catalog.

How do you recommend sealing the bolt holes? Silicone sealer aounr each bolt? O-ring?

I used clear sylicone seal on mine to stop the leak on my 86. I doubt my spoiler was stock from the factory, looked like PO installed it so I used a large flat washer to back up the nut on trunk side with sylicone, applied a thin coat around the base seal of the spoiler legs on top too.

Take a moment while you're at it and dry out the trunk carpet. Although it's an olefin type synthetic, it can smell up like any other carpet when damp however it will dry out much faster than nylon types.

I gotta say don't go completely off of how "good" the spoiler gaskets look. Like other gaskets, over time they deform and take shape of whatever they're attached to. Typically with the spoilers & since the decklid is flat, they gradually get an upwards curve, exposing enough under the spoiler to cause small leaks.

Yes a clear silicone would do a good job. It might be wise to pursue new gaskets. I'm pretty sure The Fiero Store has new spoiler gaskets pretty cheap. Since their shipping can be high, would be a good chance to pick up other things from them you may need.

I heard the FS gaskets were not the best, anyone have any information?

As for sealing the holes. I buy Butyl Tape. It is sold by 3M and is used to seal things like this. It does not harden and can be removed in the future.

The old gaskets can be soaked in warm water to make them pliable and a hair dryer can be used to keep them pliable while you install them. Form them over the studs and bottom of the stand before installing the wing. I also use a small chunk of Butyl Windshield Setting Tape. It can be applied between the gasket and deck lid, around the bolt hole, or on the bottom side around the bolt so that the washered nut flattens it and makes a seal underneath.

Ditto on the butyl, the gaskets are a joke, only good for keeping the paint from chipping.

I did buy two sets of spoiler gaskets from the FS. They are not as thick as the original. There seems to have been a gasket or sealant where the stud protrudes through the deck lid. I'll try the butyl tape or silicone. THe original gasket cleaned up real nice so I plan to reinstall it.

Thanks for the replies.
