So This was installed about 6 years ago.2" performance Ocelot t. The car has been sitting around allot and getting less then 5K a year on the Odometer. The whole Ocelot exhaust system is rusting on the outside. I mean total rust. Not from the inside like you would expect

shame on me for not getting the stainless but at $ 600 ... sigh, I know , I really have nothing to complain about it's been in there too long.

I hate rust!

Sitting inside in storage, or sitting outside in elements? If it's the later, then it's no surprise that you would see surface rust after sitting outside for that long. Most of the underbody damage to cars actually occurs from those that have sat outside on non-hard surface positions (grass, dirt, etc).

"aluminized coating" is just so much BS in my opinion. covered car. concrete driveway.

I didn't realize that's what TFS uses for that particular option.

Did you look around locally and get quotes before purchasing TFS's setup? Most local speciality exhaust shops can build you a very nice quality setup for less coin (since you're only out their labor and materials).

In contrast, the Ocelot exhaust on my Fiero (also aluminized) has held up for over 4 years with minimal rust. And the car is parked outside, in the elements (asphalt driveway). The secret? Paint it! And touch up the paint when it starts to deteriorate.

What do you recommend for paint? Something like that VHT manifold paint, or is there something better you use?

I painted mine with some stuff from the company that makes POR 15, my car is garage kept and not driven often, and there is no rust on my exhaust. Most of the paint has flaked off as well.

My bigger gripe with the Ocelot is the poor fitment on my 88GT.

I use the DEI silicone spray, since it's available locally. But the VHT paint should work just as well.

The pipe from the cat to the muffler is completely rusted the muffler and exit pipes are showing large spots. Anyone think paint can gain me some time on it? no leaks yet.
