Alright, my motor stopped working, looked at it and this thing is the culprit.

Its a fuse, no? what kind and where the hell do I get a new one. The local shop didn't help or tell me much. And The four or five fieros in the junkyards nearby are gutted.

Also what is this thing called. The plastic housing that attaches to the rest of the headlight, Its sort broke in a spot,

I guess i could use a some gorilla glue and a torch or somethin', but id rather have it not break again.
Thank you to everyone! Very grateful for the forum and all of you here

1. Is a circuit breaker... If that got hot then bigger problem... rebuild it or get a newer motor.

2. Get a used bucket... see mall section

Fist off. Thank you. lol

just fyi, that i think i forgot to mention. The left side headlight assembly works great. The right side is the bad side.

I dunno what it is. I thought fuse but I honestly have no clue. I guess it could be a circuit breaker but... I took the thing(the first picture) out of my left side headlight motor and put it in the right side motor. Then the motor worked great. Ive done so much swapping and testing of stuff. I know that thing is the problem and my motor is good. I just need a new one of those things or an improvised mabob. I apologize for my lack of terminology.

EDIT: to say, That its not the bucket, its the plastic housing around the bucket... no? Cause the bucket is the metal part. Directly with the headlight right?

1. Yes thermal breaker.
See my cave, gen 1 hl motor in lighting section or use PFF search

2. Metal or plastic doesn't matter... Too much stress to glue etc to fix it for long time. Just get another whole bucket assembly... See mall section.

You're likely going to be best to source both parts in a WTB post here in The Mall on PFF. They shouldn't cost you a lot since headlight parts - especially Gen 1 - are so common.

In the picture with the broken tab, that's where the headlight bucket mounts to the retaining portion of the lower headlight bucket holder. It's a pivot point, and with that sort of damage attempting to repair it would not be a good idea.

Your little white piece is the limit switch.
And as long as the brushes are still glued on, you probably only need to clean the points like you would in an old distributor.

good luck

As said, that isn't a fuse. The fuseholder shaped connector is just a weatherpak connector for the ground. I can't tell for sure, but it appears that one of the little carbon brushes is missing. That will prevent the motor from running. The limiter switch you picture is no longer available except to scavenge one from another 84 thru 86 Generation 1 motor. They are interchangeable from right to left motors as you found. I have a complete headlight mechanism if you can't find one locally. They are specific to the right or left and not interchangeable. Specify which side you might need.

I also rebuild headlight motors if you decide to go that route.

Alrighty. Thank you everyone. I followed the cleaning method for the little metal piece. And The motor works great now. Ill post a WTB in the mall for the plastic and bucket piece, unless any of you guys have the part I need, maybe pm me? I dont know much about forum etiquette either. Ha

Thank you again, my frustration prevented any common sense from working. Haha.
