Backstory: I was driving home from school last tuesday, I was almost home. Until, my fiero just cut out right on the highway. Had to get a tow truck to bring it home. When we unloaded the car from the tow truck, we started looking at what might possibly be wrong. At first it seemed like the ignition module wasn't producing enough spark. Bought a new module, installed it, still nothing. Car doesn't turn over. It makes a whining noise but won't turn. Fast forward to this morning. Went out and bought a new distributor. Replaced it, still nothing. I'm rather puzzled why it won't turn. Anybody got any suggestions?

If the car doesn't turn over replace the starter.

If the car is turning over but not firing then look at the tach and see if the tach is moving up to 200 rpm during cranking and dropping back to 0 after. If that not happening, then look at your primary side of your ignition. If not check your fuel pressure.

It sounds like it's ready to turn over but it won't so, won't fire up. We checked the fuel pump, once the key is turned in the ignition, the fuel pump does that whine that it's supposed to. And the thing with the tach? Well....half my tachometer is kinda dead...Specifically the RPM gauge...So is there a way to bypass that to get a ready? It's currently pinned at the bottom.

So does the starter turn over or doesn't it? Id first check the battery terminals and grounds, check voltage at engine to hot and chassis to hot with volt meter, then check the wiring at the starter, then check the wiring in the ignition and cluster.
