OK, I know the front hubs are different so you'd have to have the 85's hubs turned down same as for the grand am etc conversion so the 88 hats would fit on the turned down hubs but would that rest fit. I'm assuming you'd need adapter plates of some sort for the calipers.

One issue that worries me with brake swaps/conversions etc is the issue of getting the system to function properly, usually a mismatch in components results in some deficiency, be it hard brake pedal etc,
If you could use a complete 88 system including I assume the master cyl, you'd have the same balanced and matched system, built for an almost identical car weight wise so you'd end up with better brakes and none of the 'issues' and dangers of a badly done conversion.

yes but better still use 88 calipers on a 12 inch rotor. fierofan25 can help you out with the brackets i am looking at this route myself at present.

The Grand Am swap with the S-10 Blazer MC would be less expensive, you would lose the Ebrake, however.

This is more just curiosity than anything else.
But I was taking with my kid about the differences in brake systems between my 88 and 85 and I will admit that the 88's brakes are a lot better than the 85's. Have more 'feel' to start with but they do stop the car better and it got me wondering how easy or not it would be to do that type of swap.

I had a brake conversion on my first 85 many years ago, a 'kit' made by a Fiero parts supplier (since changed hands so not fair to bad mouthing them) but lets' just say it was less than stellar and I removed it and I've been vary wary of any sort of 'unofficial' brake swap since then, even well proven ones because of the obvious things like my life depending on those things! I figure poor but reliable is better than great but could kill you! I just drive within the limits of the brakes, I.E. No tail gating!

I've got and am quite happy with stock wheels so bigger rotors is not really an option. I was just wondering if anyone else had done a straight install on an pre 88 car.

Not easy, but possible.

The GrandAm upgrade give you the vented rotors front rear and a more modern caliper, braking is actually better on my swapped 86 than it is on my 88 Formula.

No ebrake if that matters.

The GA swap was less than rebuilding the 88 system.
