Is this coil any good?

Accel GM HEI Remote Mount Super Coil 1995-84

I have yet to put it on, but I have it. The one on the car, an 85 4cyl base, is ok, was kind of a cheap one bought just to get a new one on as the previous appeared to be original and was in bad shape. If anyone has any thoughts please let me know so I can either put it on or return it.

Also, is it difficult to install? I have read all of the specs and think it seems easy, but have also read that these can be a pain.

Do you have an Accel part number?

As a broad general statement, an Accel coil is probably a good choice. Years ago I bought an Accel coil that required a pigtail between the vehicle harness and the coil. EDIT - I also had to custom make a mounting bracket for the coil because the Accel one was too wide for the bracket on the car (end edit). I would recommend either the MSD 5526 or the MSD 8226. The 8226 is probably more coil than needed unless you plan to add an MSD ignition controller. I would recommend the MSD because they are a direct swap in; plug-and-play.

Part No 140011

I have heard of the issue of them being too wide. If I go forward, how can I make a harness? I can likely return the Accell, but if its not necessary I would rather not.

It probably has a pigtail in the box (hopefully) so that you can plug the coil into the factory wiring harness. If that coil is too wide for the mounting bracket that will present a problem. I made a bracket for one of these coils, and that was a PITA. Honestly it would be easier to return the Accel coil and buy an MSD or a Delco one. Either of those will mount to the bracket without issue and will plug right in.

This is a picture of the MSD 5526:

Compare this to what your Accel coil looks like. Those two connector plugs on the MSD are not on the Accel which is why you need the pigtail. An AC Delco will also do the job just fine for a 4 cylider, and will mount up and plug in without any hassle.

this s-10 forum seemed kind of helpful. I worry that I will have trouble returning now that im looking at my paperwork. Did it online from advance auto parts since you get good deals online. Not sure I can do an easy exchange, and only have short time to work with.

Its always something.

In that article on the S10 forum, the Accel coil mounted directly to the coil bracket with no modification. I'm pretty sure that that Accel coil will not line up to the mounting holes on the Fiero coil bracket.
