I've never seen one and they look stunning. Anybody actually tried doing one? Or maybe even succeeded?

I haven't seen any Fiero conversions.
I have seen pics of 914 conversions, but they didn't look right.
I think RCR has done one or two. http://www.gt40s.com/forum/...391-r-c-r-904-a.html

I've seen replicas in old issues of Kit Car Magazine... I'll see if I can't dig one out and post a few pics. The kits were built on modified VW Beetle pans though, the Fiero is way too big a car to use as a donor. One of the better executed kits I recall even had a Mazda RX7 rotary engine in it. IMHO the kits looked pretty good.

I was at a shop in Beverly Hills back in the '70s that did Porsche body modifications (lots of owners wanted their cars to look like factory Turbos, apparently). There was a clapped out 904 there that someone had bought from a racing team and wanted made street legal. I was astounded how little it was. Not just low, but narrow! Of course, this was a time when my 1965 Mustang seemed like a little car on the road.

Still, even though this one had been raced, I could see it was built as a racer. No "fit and finish" had ever been part of this car's life.

Yeah that's also why I'm interested. They're quite simple cars maybe except for the engine but nobody's gonna put an original one in a replica. I'm actually thinking of making a fiberglass body. Let's face it it's the looks I want and I don't need it to be a pure racing car. So I'm wondering if anybody has any source on the dimensions of the car or some technical data?

tampalic thanks for the link that is a nice replica.

Bloozberry please do upload some if you find it.

Thanks.

The best thing would be to find an old Kelmark kit (a sort-of Ferrari Dino) and start with that. Similar lines.

I searched my vintage Kit Car Magazines and only found a single article (Jul '94), though I seem to remember there being more. Anyways, FWIW the car was based on a Porsche 914, not on a VW as I had originally thought. Neat little car.

I like the lines, but in the last picture it looks like the nose is too high to me. I think that it would get front end lift at high speed. I have driven cars that had enough lift that I backed off even though I wanted to see how fast it would go. Early Vette.

Very nice pictures. I decided to start a 904 replica soon when I collect all the data I need. I decided not to be a Fiero based but will build my own stainless steel tube frame and a custom suspension. When I finally get to it I will post pics.

Impossible to do a creditable job of this on a Fiero chassis on the cheap and throwing away money to try and do it properly. Can't see anyone ever succeeding at that sort of thing. I agree that the 904 had classic looks, though.
