Yes I know, a bit of overkill. I'll be upgrading the brakes before I install the 4.3 vortec turbo. the front calipers will be 4 pot toyota's. and the rears yet to be determined. I'm looking at using the MR2 PS pump for the hydraulics. Since the booster, and master(pics soon) were free of charge. and brand new(not reman) it's worth trying to me. So, comments, idea's things like that.

They work great for trail braking in an autocross. I've got a friend that put one in his Corvette for that reason and it's pretty nice to drive with. Brakes are quite touchy though, just something you have to get used to.

Yeh I've been reading up on the systems. It will be very touchy and much less pedal travel. But I'm used to that on my ranger. As soon as get my mr2 pump. I'll install the system. I'll keep the brake swap Sep from hydro boost swap. For now I'm lookin for comments and segestions.

My wife's 1976 Cadillac Eldorado convertible has hydraboost power brakes that run off the power steering pump. They work great. BTW this car has just over 33000 original miles and looks nearly new (red with white top and white leather interior). Quite different to drive than the Fieros.

It does a good job of stopping my roughly 6000lb GMC, can't imagine it in a vehicle less then half the weight.

It does give you a very firm pedal with little travel.

You can put more clamp force on the rotors with hydro boost and more pistons in the clamps, but the stock rotors are still very thin and VERY non-vented. You will melt the stock rotors with heavier clamping force.

I doubt that the extra clamping force will melt the stock rotors. The car will simply stop quicker. The energy to stop the car won't change it will simply happen quicker.

just a thought.

The downside is added weight. Not sure what unit you're using, but the ones from GM trucks are probably 15# heavier than the stock vacuum booster. If you add the weight of the power steering pump and hoses to route the fluid to the front, you're probably adding 30# to the car.

A few extra pounds won't hurt the front of our cars. I'll be useing the mr2 elec-hydro pump mounted next the booster. The set up I've got has a 1.25 inch bore, and 15 inches long from booster mount to end of master.

I can see locking up the brakes easily, time for stickier tires
