So im pulling my fuel tank today to replace my pump, and im disconnecting my fuel lines, and i removed my heat shield for more room, and i noticed this...steel line, that was rusted all the way through, one end looks like it plugs into the Fuel filter, and the other end runs into that black canister thing (dont know what that is either) on the drivers side of the engine bay...its rusted in half, it looks like its been that way for a while, and im not leaking anything from the line...does anyone know what this line is??

Evaporative emissions system, catches fuel evaporating from the tank for later use.

So in theory, if i purchase a universal fuel line and repair that, my car might be a little better on gas?

Meaning better for the environment? Is that all that's for?? Just for emissions?

Bigtime environmental bonus. A gallon of fuel evaporated into the air has more hydrocarbons than a modern car emits hydrocarbons over 100k miles.

Is there a vacuum leak associated with having a break in this line? I mean when the canister purge valve opens engine vacuum should pull the evap canister contents into the engine.. won't it be sucking atmospheric air now?
