Trying to remove the black debris shield thingy but it looks like i need to remove the wiper arms, any tips?

Believe it or not, they pull right off. Use a big screwdriver to pry one side and then the other...keep it straight.

Just grab them right at the base and wiggle and pull them straight up off the shaft . They just set on the splined shaft really tight.

If you lock the wiper arms in the up position ("up" meaning away from the window glass), it will be a little easier to remove & install them. You can do this by pulling the arm up (i.e. away from the window glass), and inserting a small nail (or a piece of coat hanger wire) in the little hole near the base of the arm.
