Hi Guys

I have to replace the tie rod ends at the back of the car. Unfortunately they won't spin off easily, so I'm appealing to the forum for advice on how to remove. There is a nut at the end, I thought it might be a lock nut, but it appears to be part of the tie rod end itest. There are some slight splines on the shaft, but nothing that I can lock against with my vice grips. Before I take an angle grider to them I would appreciate any advice.

Regards Richard

The rear has an inner and outer piece, which one are you trying to get off?

It is a locknut.

Once the inner tie rod is rotated to adjust the rear toe the nut is jambed against the outer tie rod to lock the adjustment into place.

Try soaking it with PB Blaster after cleaning the road gunk off with a wire brush. Use vice grip pliers to hold the inner tie rod and a wrench on the nut. If that won't loosen it heat the nut with a propane or acetylene torch then try to loosen it again using the wrench.

Be careful you don't burn down your Fiero!

Usually there are two flat spots 180* apart on the outer tie rod end that you can slip a wrench on to brace against while loosening the jamb nut.

thanks guys. It is the outer tie rod end, and it looked so much like it was one piece. I will get my wrench on it and have another go now you have confirmed it is a lock nut. Much appreciated!
