Sorry guys this is not fiero related. Tried posting in OT and it didnt really pan out there as far as advice. So figured I'd try here. 81 gs450, surface rust in the tank. Got the Kreem kit and wanna just ask if anyones got any tips or hints about using this kit. Even negative reviews on Kreem kits are welcome.

Thanks for your time and have a great night! Hopefully see you out there soon!

I used it once. It worked good, but you really have to fallow the prep instructions. It says it will dry in like 48 hours or something, but I let mine sit in the sunlight for about a week. The "chemical" smell was NOT gone in 48 hours, and I wasn't about to poor gas in the tank when the kreem was still going through it's curring process. Allow more cure time than what is recommended.

Like the others have said, preparation is key.

Also, when you're initially cleaning the tank for prep, you need to put "something" in the tank to mechanically knock off the rust. A small link chain always worked best for me. That inside's really got to be clean, with nothing loose. There are some good write-ups on what chemicals to use if your kit doesn't tell you.

Also, when you go to do the Kreem coating, you need to be ready to roll it around the inside of the tank right away. It can set up "globs" inside if you're not quick. Be ready to rock and roll (literally) once you pour the Kreem.

I did my first 85 Fiero tank, and it was rough. No problems since. I also did my son's 84 Fiero recently and it came out really nice. The old time motorcycle guys use it religiously when they build custom tanks. They don't leak!

In the motorcycle forums I hang out on the experience has been that ethanol fuel causes the Kreem coating to peel off inside the tank fairly quickly, in just a few months typically.

I used the stuff on 2 tanks on bikes, and I run only ethanol. Never had a problem.

I stopped using Kreem. I've had problems with it peeling as well. POR 15 is a much better product in my opinion.
